When the snow melts, we are all pretty
The BOTH cross-diciplinary art and design team hits Turku as a part of the Turku 2011 Cultural Capital Year.
Together with our in-house artist Eeva Kaisa Berry we concepted this project, which consists of (maybe) 15 thousand onion flowers (Crocus sp), planted in several locations around Turku with the local residents in the fall of 2010, blooming when the snow melts in the spring 2011. The onion flowers will form big, positive messages such as “Olet kaunis!” (you’re beautiful!), or “Pussataan” (let’s kiss), which is our favorite.
The onion bulbs are donated by Huiskula Oy, an importer of quality flowers. Thanks for taking part!
For us this piece is all about getting back on your feet after a gray winter, claiming your streets -attitude, and remembering that life does not suck. Usually.
Want to come and plant the flowers? Contact the Turku 2011 voluntary coordinators.
Please follow this blog to see how the project develops.
And please ignore the horrible type in this sketch. We’ll do a better job on the actual sites. Honestly we will.
Crocus sp is the first to sprout in the spring.
