We have a two new BOTH babies aboard. The smaller one goes for Pia, who is on maternity leave now. We’re expecting a visit anytime. Congratulations Pia!
Our bigger new baby is our new designer Jani Reinikainen, who is fast, fluid and chameleont-like addition to our team. Jani has a background in advertisement, digital design and illustration. It’s been good. Welcome Jani!
We’ve been too busy to update our blog. Sorry. We’ll update some nice stuff right now.
And we’ll be jurying for the national annual Best of the Year -design competition held by Grafia. We’ll be in with the Visual Identity pack.
We had the pleasure to host a brief session with the General Manager of Toyota Kansei Design Carole Favart and her companion, research student Alexandre Gentner at our office. We showed some of our work and gave them a quick peek into a new digital concept we are developing. We got the impression they appreciated our design in general but did not appreciate the visuals of our mock-up-concept. Don’t worry, we’ll work on that.
We just recieved delightful news from Taiwan: Our poster (BOTH self-promotional poster) is among finalists in Taiwan International Poster Design Awards. Some 1 393 design works were submitted from 32 different countries. Feels good.
A photo speaks more than a thousand words. Here’s a peek to today’s Rhythm planting sessions.
Please join us tomorrow!

We had the honour of judging the Environmentally friendly design exhibition of NowHereFinland today. Other jurors were designer Harri Koskinen, professor Pirjo Kääriäinen from Aalto University and regional design artist Paula Susitaival.
I think we were quite happy with the best pieces, but man some of those greenwasher-projects made us uncomfortable. And it certainly seems to be hard to really manufacture something ecologically viable instead of doing small-scale handicraft stuff from recycled material. Not that there is anything wrong that. But, somehow, we missed the out-of-the-box-thing. A bit.
Please join us in our newest claim-your-streets-kinda-happening Rytmi, this time in the World Design Capital of Kauniainen, whose Design capital year we’ll be honoured to launch.
The planting sessions of 20 000 tulips will be on Sept 30 and Oct 1 st, rain or shine. A bit like our You’re beautiful! and You’re important -projects, but grander.
Featuring a choir and a group of sax players! Hot drinks! Balloons!
Dont’t miss it.

(Oops, only in Finnish for the time being).

Today was the first day of our latest stamp, a miniature sheet of two stamps to celebrate one of our national authors, Juhani Aho.
One of the perks of this job is to learn a thing or two about, say, literature.

We’re expecting a new addition to our pretty row of BOTH babies (real ones, not the ones done for customers).
Since early parenthood and full-time-employment are a hard match, we’re looking for a temporary (or permanent, if all goes well) addition to our design team.
We like to think about ourselves as a quality design company. We like to keep it that way, so we like to see quality type, branding and possibly magazine design in portfolios we receive. Most likely we like to see quite a few years of professional practice as well. And, since one of our first internal codes of conduct is a capability and willingness to team-work, we tolerate very little ego-centred design-princessisms.
And desipite the language of this blog entry, our new designer must have a decent command of Finnish.
Please approach us with your most beautiful and exiting portfolios or any questions at rekry(thethingie)both.fi.
